Making a plan

We need to have only one or a few words in our plan. The plan has to be about the topic. It needs 3 or more ideas. When we use the plan to do our writing, we need to write 2 or more sentences about each idea. The plan helps us to remember what happened. We need to start and end our writing with a sentence about the topic.
I think I have got a lot better at spelling out words for my writing. My plan always helps me to think about what I am going to write.

Teen numbers

We are learning about teen numbers. All teen numbers have a 10 in them. When you write a teen number, you need to start with a 1. Adding and subtracting teen numbers is easy because you have to think of it as a 'ten and' number.

Sounding out words

I am learning to sound out words when I am writing. Sometimes it is tricky to think of the sounds in words.

Swimming fun

I went to the swimming sports. I was first and second. I was in the finals. My dad was cheering for me and my friend. I was cheering for her too. I was in the ball race. I had a ball in the water.

Rhyming words

We are learning about rhyming words. The middle and last sound in rhyming words has to be the same. It is easy to sound out words when they are rhyming. Rhyming words almost sound the same. Only the first sound is different. I sometimes find it tricky to read and write rhyming words.

Our Poupou

For one of our art projects we learnt to draw a poupou.  Poupou are traditionally a wooden carved Maori statue.  Poupou tell the stories of the meeting house, the local iwi and the iwi's ancestry.  We sketched our Poupou and then painted them using cotton buds and dye.  We learnt about symmetry and proportion.
